The Fortress

Since I'm starting the year kind of fresh, I can't imagine that my readers will have read through the archives or remembered things that happened here even a year ago, so some of my updates might sound a little familiar. I will try not use that as a source of material too often without adding to it in some way.

Do you remember Dracula's Secret Underwater Fortress, my proposed puppet serial? The project hasn't advanced in months, due to some rather severe scheduling issues (I'm finishing a game, my collaborator is in post-production for a short independent film), but I was reminded of it since that collaborator, Mr. Anonymous, was hanging out with me at a viewing of this year's Royal Rumble this evening, hosted by famed online pro wrestling role-player and all-around good Moose Javian, The Jago. Mr. Anonymous and I touched on the subject at the end of the night, and we both still seem very interested in returning to it once we have time again. He's found a potential production designer who loves the Dracula mythos and is interested in our take on it, and I found out something interesting about the project's origins.


I think it was a concept that was put forth by Scottybomb, and it stayed in my head for years before I approached Mr. Anonymous about making this longtime concept a reality. But its origins go back even further, probably weeks earlier.


During a game night where folks were playing the Fury of Dracula board game, or so D! relates, the concept of Dracula having a secret underwater fortress was born. Scottybomb related this to me, and years later, I ran with it.

The project--oh no, I just thought of something. Literally, I was in mid-type when it popped into my head. What if all the Dracula plot outlines are still on the hard drive that died during the Ninjanomicon Datapocalypse, where I lost all my writing, and much of my Apocalypse Kow and Pure Speculation data?

I did a search for the files and it looks like that's what happened, since I can't find it on my current hard drive. Now it is even more important that I get the data off that drive, otherwise Mr. Anonymous and I will have to start from scratch. Damn it! This had better not be a sign of things to come in 2011. The year has started off so well, I don't want it to slowly degenerate into a chaotic mess already.
